Feel as though most posts I make are about me coming back from an unplanned hiatus but anyway! It's time again! I had an issue with Firefox mobile where I couldn't load any websites or sync my account and I sort of procrastinated on fixing it but I'm using the DuckDuckGo browser now to see how it works and it seems fine so far!

Hmm thinking back over what's new in my life since last... I started my journey towards getting an autism assessment! And in the process realised that I have innatentive type ADHD and possiby also OCD. I got a new plushie and now I carry him around with me everywhere I go. And I downloaded some apps to help me set up a more consistent routine but I'm not very good at it yet lol

Here is Douglas, my new plushie! I love him haha, he's named after my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather (and also the plushie model name)

He is a Douglas Dinosaur from Jellycat! I also maybe forgot to mention that I'm learning Finnish now which is super exciting!!

Oh. And my gender has changed again! My new gender is called ???? and my name and pronouns are back to Lane and they/them finally!!

unicorns -

And I figured out that I'm probably aromantic! And I already knew I'm asexual! But I'm still attracted to girls and enbies! And I don't know what kind of attraction it is! Which is confusing me! And when I try to google types of attraction all that shows up are "how does your and your partners love languages match" articles that aren't useful at all! Yay!!

Oh. And my gender has changed again! My new gender is called ???? and my name and pronouns are back to Lane and they/them finally!!

Have been wondering for a while, how emotion work for others? Know how my emotion work, but not proper match with books. Became curious if have been misunderstanding books or if my emotion different?

Have wondered how emotion feel for other people, what emotion feel like, where in body emotion felt. Like in book, people say "show not tell" but I not feel emotion like "tell", not just know "oh I feel sad/angry/happy" but body reacts to emotion, but "show" often not match either, so emotion feel different for different people, but in which ways? Do other people feel emotion in brain or in body or in both? Is hard to explain...

ooooh bee think understand is like. bee body show emotion but bee brain no understand by self so bee need look at what body do to work out emotion

alsoalso bee body emotion different look then nt body emotion

stella tend feel emotion so strong, sometime emotion themself basically make overload - & always had emotions which easy set off, so stella been thought of like "ticking time bomb" just cause NTs not understand

plus some ppl think stella reactions weird, cause got hard time frown right so make sad seem more like anger to someone outside

stella always confuse by ppl who say where emotions "feel," too - stella immediately feel in head & all of thoughts & not notice any else unless outward physical (shake, cry, etc)

emotions is weird, basically. not broke or wrong, just NTs tend only account for selves!

beefox -

yeye! bee get overwhelm by emotion lots too! bee just bad identify emotion

fallow -

me i feel emotion in chest most times. like love, sad, jealous, etc. all in chest, as if chest is 'radiating' emotion energy. emotion get very strong for me too which can get painful in a way? not literal physical pain, but...emotion pain i guess. Used to be more of a problem when younger bc didn't know about flapping (it just never occur to me; some year ago read thing person write about flapping and was like "wait i could do that too!" )

is like emotion-energy need to get out, and before I read about stim I had no way to get it out. made even "good" emotions feel bad when too much of it because emotion too strong to handle.

have hard time express gratitude most. always think "am i doing it right?" after accepting gift. even if really like gift is hard to express somehow. easier now cuz am comfortable flapping and make noises!! really is only good way i've found of getting out emotion. Well besides play instrument or draw but those are not really use in conversation.

(sometimes also have physical things like headache, tired, temperature, heart fast, tummy feel weird, etc in response to emotion, not sure if is type of 'locational' thing you mean though)

also @ unicorns what books?

unicorns -

Lazur feel many emotion in chest too! Nd emotion combine with other conditions to form nausea a lot, but not always bad nausea, just nausea. But not feel all emotion in chest, anger is in forearms and feels prickly and warm and weird, and fear is in every place where needle can be administered because needle is big fear so always feel like needle will show up and inject Lazur when scared, even if scared about other thing.

Emotion can be painful for me too, flapping work for joy and many other good emotion, but not all emotion. Also stim not strong enough often, body get tense because can't handle joy even when flapping and make shoulder and back hurt. Other emotions not as strong or for as long period of time, so not as big problem. Don't much mind the hurt, have high pain threshold, but joy would be better if weren't problem.

Gratitude is very difficult! Lazur not diagnosed, so have to fake be nt with family too, but have learned just smile and squeal a little and they not question. When younger, Lazur often told was ungrateful for not showing enthusiasm for gift, so use trial and error to learn acceptable response. Much easier with friends who know Lazur nd, friends told Lazur about neurodiversity to begin with earlier this year (for example, was told when younger autism was a condition that make every single autistic person unable speak or think at all, can do both those (just differently) so never consider was possibility, thought other people were just weird)

Also yes those can be location thing too! Feel nausea with fear and safety/comfort and nervousness and anxiety, head feel numb when angry, Lazur feel whole body too much when scared, cry when frustrated, joy start in chest but radiate down arms when stimming etc.

And not specific books, but when reading different fictional books from characters perspective (like in Harry Potter or Hunger Games or etc) when you know what character feels, my emotion feel different from how books describe them, been long time since read books often (not enough attention span) so not sure which books, but also the writing advice in Swedish class at school feel different to how emotion feel for me. Hard to describe.

Thank you for response!

Oh, interesting! Lazur not feel emotion much at all, very rarely feel more than a little of something, but when emotion happen there is sudden burst! And strong emotion happen, very intense but for short amount of time. Are exceptions when feel emotion often, and some SpIns can make very strong joy happen for long time, but mostly not feel much. Lazur feel more empathy emotion than own emotion!

Way Lazur feel emotion also different, only feel empathy in brain and rest felt in body, but can agree that reaction not match nt "proper" reaction! Often laugh when in awkward or scary or high-pressure situations, or cry more when frustrated and not sad. Also can't stop crying when emotion finish, often have to say "Lazur fine now, but crying won't stop for some minutes."

Emotion is weird, and Lazur want more perspective, especially from nd perspective, always seem to be nt perspective everywhere. Thank you for answer!

I was just about to go to bed when I, for the second night in a row, heard what sounded like a cat fight. There are a lot of cats in the area (outdoor cats because people don't know better) but now I'm quite scared... I also haven't heard the owners or anything, and my parents didn't react either night, just what sounds like one cat screaming repeatedly.

Ok people in a Discord server I'm in have informed me that I've probably been hearing foxes, which makes sense since I live in a forest with foxes in it, I've just never been regularly awake until midnight before. I'm feeling better now but I'll probably listen to Joe Hills playing season 6 of Hermitcraft as I go to sleep.

Hi! I was wondering if any witches on Waterfall could help? Under cut because it's pretty long

I'm looking into witchcraft but a lot of the standard practices listed online don't really work for me, since I can't use insence at all (sensory stuff) and I can't get a candle (never mind a red one) due to current events (and I'm not allowed to light candles anyway). I'd probably use a lot of crystals in my practice, since crystals are a reoccuring special interest of mine so I have a lot of them already available, and I feel like it's right for me.

I also can't find any clear sources during my research, most of them contradict each other because of the individuality of their practices. I don't know anything about witchcraft, I can't find what deities are worshipped (some say different pagan deities and others say the Goddess), but I believe and I want to express my belief.

To summarise, I was wondering if people had any tips for a baby witch who's trying ter best? (Rituals, spells, signs of and interacting with deities, prayers, etc that don't involve incense or candles)

@beefox commented: bee personal like sigil work, is fun calming and personal! other things could do is tarrot reading (bee recently invented new system with play cards, but do have to draw on a little) witch stuff and spirituality general are very personal and flexible, is why there no concrete guides. anyone who tell have to do certain way in bee opinion either misguided or actively hurting community, so don't worry if people say have to do certain way. (but of course asking people how do and learning from others fine!)

I wrote a reply but I accidentally backed out so I'll rewrite it!

Okay no energy for english, will write-short

Thank you for comment! Sigil work good, have looked for similar but not found, will research more!

Want to draw own tarot deck! May take while, but will enjoy! Play card system sound interesting, would love learn!

Know is personal, but have trouble not fact-check, find one or two other source is important detail in school. Will try unlearn so can read more personal without feel bad, or make fact-check system for witchcraft. Different system from school system for science research, where feel-good important, not science-truth.

Thank you much for help! Sorry for bad short english, never write like this before. Also not have name, so no pronoun-replace. More easy though, have enjoyed!

I have like 40 or 50 tabs of posts I want to reblog but most of them require image descriptions and all of them require tags and I'm too tired so I just let them pile up lol

My class has had trouble with our physics teacher for the last 5 months, ever since mid-January. He's supposed to be a professor in education, and yet he can't even explain things to his students properly. He'll write something on the board, won't explain what it means and then get mad at us for not knowing. This has continued during online school.

Tomorrow is his physics test (something none of the other teachers for our year even have) and nobody understands anything. Whenever someone asks a question, he gets angry with that student. We've complained through all the proper channels and we finally went through the bureaucracy and reached our principal, and he's is proud of us for complaining properly. The principal talked to the teacher (we don't know what they said) and now our teacher seems almost afraid.

He hasn't responded to the complaint at all. He's changed a few of the things we complained about but he defied orders to discuss it with us in class. He once said (angrily) "I can't be a good teacher if you won't talk to me, it's a two-way street!" but he gets really angry at anyone who tries to do that, so we're all afraid of him.

Today my teacher said (translated from Swedish) "Don't be afraid to ask questions, I've heard that some of you are too frightened to ask questions, but there's nothing to be afraid of. I want you to ask questions." A little later, he was a bit passive aggressive because we hadn't told him how we wanted our tests to be graded. A student asked how they were going to be graded, and he said in an annoyed tone that he was grading them (the other method being we grade our own tests). Another student had already asked the same question in the chat, and had @ ed him. He gets furious. He goes off about how the student in the chat was @ ing him multiple times (he only did once), how it's not his responsibility to check chat (it is) and how he already answered the question (another student asked him through voice chat because he didn't answer). A student caught him on camera during his rage.

We'll have to see how this goes. We've complained about him several times now, he's not a very good teacher, he has no lesson plan and doesn't check at all to make sure his students are caught up. He's also only a few months away from mandatory retirement. Hopefully the school will decide to replace him early. I don't think I'll pass the class if they keep him on.

unicorns -

@fallow commented: oof that sounds rough, have you told the principal that the teacher hasn't done what the principal asked? (assuming its been a reasonable amount of time)... maybe the teacher doesn't want to work anymore and is taking it out on you guys idk i didnt know mandatory teacher retirement was a thing

(Wow pasting on Firefox mobile is really difficult hahah...)

We have informed the principal, and we're waiting for a potential response. I'm pretty sure any potential action would be confidential under some kind of employer/employee confidentiality though.

I took the test, and it was full of spelling and grammar errors! A friend of mine called in sick for the test because she just didn't want to take it. I guessed on some questions based on units and odd bits of information I'd picked up, and then spent the rest of the time copying the test down word for word to catch as many mistakes as I could find as proof. One question was something along the lines of "You have a drill (like the one you use to screw screws when building) with these specifications. A) how much of this is useful energy. B) you're trying to lift a bucket of tools that weighs 12 kg. How high up would it go after 15 seconds?" And I drew a cartoon of different ways a drill could lift a bucket of tools and actually handed it in, because I was very confused. I can post the cartoon if anyone's interested in it, it took like 20 seconds to make!

And we don't have mandatory teacher retirement as such, it's just a general thing where nobody is allowed to work after turning 68, no matter their career. He might not want to work, but then he should (and easily could) retire since the minimum age is 61 or 62 and the most common would be 65 or so, and he's already well past that. The only way I can make sense of it is that maybe his contract won't let him retire (since my country doesn't have enough teachers), but my school is quite prestigious and has a great reputation so they usually have lots of applicants for their positions.

i just had a ~brilliant idea~ and its keeping me awake so i gotta test it hold on a sec

fallow -

k this is weird actually

my brilliant idea is this:

-tagging using emoji because emoji are language-neutral for the most part

scenario: since there are people from so many different places on this site who speak so many different languages, it's likely that people will tag things in different languages. The reason I bring this up is because if this is the case, then someone could stumble upon something from a tag they muted/blocked/[?] because it was not tagged as such in their language.

However since emoji are recognizeable by virtually anyone who encounters them regardless of language (including, to my knowledge, people using screen readers) that would prevent this from happening as long as everyone could agree on what emoji meant what. And in most cases (in the ones representing objects at least) I think that would be fairly straightforward.

So for example if someone draws something with blood then someone with the 🩸 tag muted/blocked/whatever wouldn't accidentally see the drawing; ordinarily they might have muted the tag of whatever the word for "blood" is in their language but if the person who posted the art speaks a different language then the tag they put on their art would not be the same as the tag the other person blocked so that person might end up seeing something that upsets them.

Also if someone wanted to see pretty pictures of clouds they could put the cloud emoji in their search bar and see everyone's pictures of clouds, regardless of the language the posters speak. & people could use online translators to get the gist of others' textposts in different languages while having context about what they mean from the tags/while not having to worry about potentially running into something that bothers them. (i know auto translators can garble things up a bunch but they're still really cool/useful tech!! as long as people keep in mind that what they're reading might not be the literal translation of what the poster actually said i think it would be neat for cross-language conversations to be a more common thing!)

What I was testing was if emojis are searchable. So it turns out they are........kind of. It looks like all emojis register as the same tag as it currently stands. However if waterfyall think this is a good idea we can totally ask staff about it and see if it's plausible/what they think.

Conclusion: Basically I know a lot of people here have english in common as a language but I think it would be really neat to set things up so that it's easier to communicate across languages because...it's important, I think. And because pictures are something that people from any place, provided they can see, can understand. And also so people don't accidentally run into content they'd rather avoid.

And another thing: I personally, at least, think that English should not be the internet's default.

In the past people have tried making "universal languages" and such but those take a lot of effort to learn and not many people know them.

Let's turn instead to something we all know.

unicorns -

It's a brilliant idea! The emoji worked just fine on my laptop but I'm on mobile now and all I can see is this unfortunately...

[Image description: A screenshot of @fallow's above post, with parts of the text cropped out. The text reads "So for example if someone draws something with blood then someone with the (blank square) tag muted/blocked/whatever wouldn't accidentally see the drawing." The blank square is how my phone displays the blood drop from the text above. End image description.]
